Description

There is a painting behind Captain Picard's desk in his quarters Star Trek the Next Generation which I have always had a fascination with. I have been watching the series again and the painting came to my attention so I tried to reproduce it in some general form. It is quite challenging to find a reference for the image. I don't know who the original artist is but whomever it may be, I provide credit to them for the original. So, what is it? I have no idea. I have decided to call it a mining platform in orbit somewhere. This image is realized in three stages. The first stage is to render the blue clouds/nebulas with the three moons. Lighting is unique to this stage. The second stage is the larger foreground moon and it's exaggerated atmosphere which has a second set of lighting impacts. The third stage is the platform itself which again has an entirely separate lighting setup. All 100% Carrara, everything modeled by me. Some adjustments and corrections were made in Paint Shop Pro. This is a very "artistic" piece in that the lighting and the modeling is designed more for visual impact than realism or lighting consistency. Came out cool though!

Agreed. The backdrop came out better than usual. Normally I go for a more stark image but this worked!

It does look really cool! Much as I like Iray, Carerra is a very solid program I don't use enough.

Thanks Madbat.

Carrara is a reasonable tool that can do a lot! I hope that it will continue to be supported in the future (we will see).
