Description

Hi, Once more taken at Shuttleworth (weather always seems perfect there!), this is BEA Systems owned and cared for for, Avro Anson C19.. It was built in 1946 and worked with just two companies continuously until 1968.. It then went to Strathallen Museum , but unfortunately this very famous museum went bust (many of todays most famous aircraft come from there).. BEA Systems took it over and brought it back to flight and it now attends airshows around the Country.. Since it was made only a few years of its life has it not flown.. When the Avro Anson Mk I first appeared it was state of the art.. Faster than some of the Fighters then around at the time.. (Heard that before?) But they proved their worth, Coastal Command used them well and several even shot down 109's! They were best known as trainers.. (Engines are Cheetahs for reference ) Rob

YIKES! I hope this was a good tele-photo shot! Hope you still have some hair left on your scalp! A very unusual shot. Interesting background. Good that BEA took it back. Shows they have some sense of piety. A pity when museums go broke. It makes a big hole in our connection to the past. And a real connection with our history is what we really need, or we would be people without a culture or past. Keep up the good work! :-)

My rating - a 6 !

WOW! Fantastic photo. Well done.

Not often one sees "Faithful Annie" in something other than "trainer yellow"!

Quite a grand POV Rob. This looks something like an old twin engine Piper...but then I noticed those big radial engines. Love the sleek, streamlined wings, fuselage and tail. Cool history bit!

Twins of this size and performance always seemed to hit the ground in pullouts that would have been no problem for a single. ?? Do you believe this? Are you familiar with F-86 Sabrejet rolling pullout limits? I also see C-130 Hercules as not clearing the mountains after takeoff in places like Kalispell, Montana when they are actually in Honduras.
