Description

My neighborhood... I've been gone almost 2 months, and I've missed you all, and missed sharing your worlds and your art. I've seen everything, and I have 2000 comments in my head: I wished I could send them "in the air". But I had a return of chronic medical problems. (Some of you said I don't talk about these things much, so please allow me to enumerate.) These come from years of doing too much. For years, I was a professional jazz musician with insane hours; and in lots of classical ensembles too; and I did ad work, graphic work and writing. The hours caught up with me once a year, but I never took it seriously. My eye problems, adrenal, heart and other matters are the result of all that. A friend said: "You never did drugs, but you did the equivalent in your actions". She may've been right. But, in recent years, there have been sick people in my life, with losses. Some of you know I did service for awhile (people on the street, sick people, etc). I left that because I needed to replenish; but when I did, my personal life took over. A sick sister, a dying father, passed friends, a passed girlfriend, and so on. Then this week, my sister was diagnosed with liver cancer. It's serious. And we're close. It was a jolt, and I'm not handling it as well as I could. I don't know what else to say, except I would just like your blessings. And I'll be commenting again (because I love it), but my 'marathon' sessions will be curtailed; and ditto dedis. I just can't do much more, now. I hope it changes in the fall. Finally, I see it when any of you is ill, having an operation etc; and I see all your art: that won't stop. Thank you for always being so kind to me and my work. Big hugs to you all, and I wish you all a fine rest of August, be well, Mark (The pic's richer full size...) ----------------------------------------------------

A very beautiful capture in superb color and it is lovely to see a posting from you again. I am so sorry to hear about your sister I do hope she will be all right. That "C' word always is so hard to take, we understand why you will want to spend as much time as you can with her and we will all be thinking of you. When we are young we think we can do anything but there always seems to be a fall out in later years with our health worse luck. I do hope your health improves before the winter cold sets in. Take care. 😄

Your fotos always have such glorious color and clarity and this one is no exception. An ordinary scene becomes a stunning image of beauty.

Life has a way of just beating us down when we can least endure it. I am so sorry to hear of your sister's illness. Having 4 brothers and sisters, I can't imagine losing any of them.

Damn... That's always hard news to bear, Mark. I feel your pain, brother... And you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers.

I know what you mean about burning your candle at both ends, too. For years, I was the chairman of a photography group here in Kansas City, and was on the board of several others as well. I was working a second job as House Photographer at a dinner playhouse, and also working with a local modeling agency. I had to back off after nearly having a nervous breakdown, and my doctor telling me I was headed for disaster.. You need to take care of yourself, buddy! Life's too short.

Anyway, it's good to see a post from you, and as always, it's a wonderful photo.

Do take care, bro, we've lost too many...

There is no gravity, the earth sucks. Terrible news, I am so very sorry to hear this. But what a wonderful 'Fuck You' to the Reaper in this brilliant image. You sure make Chicago look good.

I say more in my site mail. Take care, Mark.

I love the architectural details against that beautiful mix of greens! The contrasts (hard lines and organics, brick and cream and green, sunlight and shadow) are gorgeous. You've done your usual masterful job of taking an ordinary street corner and turning it into something special and elegant.

Much love , big hugs, and heartfelt blessings to you, dear one.

Your clarity, light, detail, sharpness and artistic composition...I have missed them all and am enjoying rolling around in them right now! Heartfelt blessings for you my friend and for dear your sister. Steve Jobs said, "Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith." You and I have already outlived Mr. Jobs...so the bricks haven't gotten us yet:-)

OH wow! So good to see you back, Dear Mark, only it is such a sad news about your sister. As you know, I feel with you and her and I hope she will get over this very sharp corner in her life. Take care and have all the peace and rest you can get, so you can be well and strong again. May your sister also be well soon.

I would have recognized this photo as YOURS from a long distance with my misty vision. Your wonderful style never denies itself. :) Love it.

First at all, Mark, i am so sorry for Lynne, and i wish her all the endurance to go through another battle! As well as for you too. After reading you about what you are going through, i remembered a saying that we have here...''elas não matam mas moem'' (they do not kill but they grind)---You did a LOT all your life and you overdid yourself years after years! so, there is always a time, when everything hits us at same time---But you will win, Mark! I am sure!! And as for this wonderful image, Mark...you captured a fascinating composition! the architectural background is a world of superb details, color and light and You show us the magic of your neighborhood, with such strength, delicacy and great beauty! The different tones of green are wonderful against the background and i cannot know what is framed or what frames...because all the image makes sense together and it is a wonderful ''bouquet'', as you called it ! It is a great gift to your sister and for all of us, because we all miss you! I send to you and Lynne healing thoughts and all my love. May she be blessed with healing and YOU, Mark, please, take care!

~ "An Urban Bouquet" ~ that sounds like a fine name for a symphony - so very charming, in name and in sound. I am getting carried away here Mark, with this 'Fantasia~mix' of photo and sound, because it speaks to me. Delicious colours greeting me here with a hint of Autumn already, if I am not mistaken ? Thank you for such a lovely present, which in itself is very healing - isn't 'Mother Nature' wonderful ?

On another note, [not music to my ears!] but with heartfelt tears in my eyes 😢 I am so sorry and sad to read of the physical ailments, of family, friends and yourself by which you are surrounded. Thinking of you in your pains and wishing you all soon and sincerely better days ahead. Stay positive and don't let those turkeys get you ... 😝

Glad to see you back for this spectacular bit of work, and sad to hear about your sister. No, it isn't easy, it's the hardest thing there is to hear that diagnosis for someone you love. I wish you both incredible strength and boundless reserves of positivity. It's a rough year all around, I think. Hang in there, don't feel pressured, and do what you need to for yourself. And of course if there's anything at all I can do to help please please please feel free to ask; I say that knowing that asking is harder than anything else there is. But know that the help is there for you if you want it, as you've helped so many yourself! Peace and love...

Dear Mark, in this picture I see a beautiful, protective canopy of leaves, as it descends as a protection; it envelops you with love and care. And by the sun shining on it, it gives you warmth, a halo of warm light. Of course this "feast for the eyes" should be admired at full size. Thanks for sharing your concerns, and needs, it's a lot to process. And this does not only care about your sister, but also everything that has accumulated over the years. I sincerely wish you good cheer, and many blessings, especially regarding your beloved sister. And yet still a wink, as I wish you strength with all those 2000 comments in your head. 😉 Take it easy, dear friend.

Marvelous blend of artificiality, nature, clarity, lighting and the subtle blending of colors, hues and tones in this remarkable capture, Mark. Good to see this from you. Otherwise, pretty much of what everyone has said above. I'm not too good at creating a composition of surprise, empathy, and sorrow when I read situations much as you have described while in my present mental and physical condition, that always teeters on the edge. But I'll give it a try. I really feel bad about your sister's plight, and the life long problems that you have endured in your pursuit of so many fields of endeavor. The term "star-crossed" came to mind while reading of what has happened to you during your existence. One thing after another has plagued you. Yours is a history of trials and tribulations, one of slings and arrows. Someone once said: to be alive is to be in danger. But one can't change the past; we have to deal with the present and the future. All I can say is that I sincerely hope things work out for the best, including those with your beloved sister. You are and have been a much talented and supportive friend. My fingers are crossed for your sister.

We've missed you, too, Mark, and it's great to see this lovely photo. I'm so very sorry to hear the news of your sister, and I know she will have your support and love every step of the way. I send healing thoughts and prayers to her, as well as you, with your health challenges. I know how much you give to others, as I have been on the receiving end of your endless generosity and compassion. I hope you have time to replenish and renew your own spirit, and that autumn brings good changes for you. Sending you love, my friend.
