Description

Stonehenge is believed to have been constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC, but no-one knows what this fabulous site had been designed for. I went to Stonehenge a decade ago and was smitten by the place. Stonehenge is also for me the highly symbolical place where Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles slept for the last time as a free woman, before being arrested by the police... Everything modelled by me in Bryce 5, except the Egyptian temple, found on the net. Thank you very much for your nice comments and support . Have a nice week and zoom in for more details !

My first visit to Stonehenge was in 1971 and it was not fenced then. Very impressing place. Your depiction is very well done.

Nice image. Stonehenge is a very advanced observatory for determining different specific dates, not only of the present year, but also forwards in time. Recently described post holes have turned out to predict lunar eclipses way ahead of time, something modern astronomers were first able to calculate some 70 years ago. People living way back then were astute observers of the motions of the sun, moon, planets and stars. And they had the time and labor to construct Stonehenge. There are similar observatories in Egypt, Central America, South east Asia, etc... Keep up the good work! :-)

Bravo ! Du beau boulot!

Great work Jean-Luc! It is assumed that Stonehenge was built for astronomical observations and predictions, such as lunar and solar eclipses. It is known that the climate 4-5,000 years ago was more Mediterranean-like, i.e. clearer skies which allowed for extensive observation of celestial objects. There are other myths associated with Stonehenge, such as the transportation of the large rocks and boulders. It may also have been started much earlier, and that Stonehenge as we know it now may just have been a continuation of something even older. I was surprised how small the place is, I always assumed it to be much bigger.

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a glass dome above the structure. :)

Moody but good-looking scene. One feels invited to explore this mysterious, mist-shrouded place, which looks even more appealing with the body of water around it. I wonder if aliens might have helped to build Stonehenge?... :)
