Description

The Kessler syndrome is a collisional or ablation cascading effect, proposed by the NASA scientist Donald J. Kessler in 1978. Using advanced algorithms Kessler formulated a scenario in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit (now estimated to be over 4000) is high enough that collisions between these objects would cause a cascade—each collision generating space debris that increases the likelihood of further catastrophic collisions, putting all technologies at risk.
