Description

I always wanted to do one of these character renders, but have never been able to pull it off. This is i-ray with lighting "straight out of the tin". No lights. Just setup the figure and clicked render. No idea where the light is coming from, how to change the direction, intensity colour etc. Adding another light doesn't seem to change the outcome of the render. Any tips on how to figure this out would be much appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Normally DAZ Studio uses a default HDR-Light.

You can change it in the "Environment"-Tab of your Render settings.

btw. nice render 😃

In case you used a camera: you may want to switch off the camera light. However, if you don't use a light DS will light the scene.

I think this looks great. I wish I could be of some help with how to do the lighting, I'm still figuring iray out myself. Great render :)

By default there is a HDRI map, and a camera lamp. The default light are not that bad here

Thanks, I've found the camera lamp. Haven't figured out what's going on in the environment section yet. The default lights are good, but they seem to drown everything else out. Not good if you are after a particular lighting setup.

Hey there, when you say 'straight out of the tin', whose or what tin is that? 😃 What I meant was, ss it the default daz studio lights or a lighting package/product?

Hi Randalthor, no lights in the scene at all. I managed to find the camera headlamp, which is a reasonably new feature. I had it turned off before i did this render. I've only just started using Daz 4.9, so i'm new to iray. From the comments above it seems that there is a default HDRI map i need to turn off in the environment settings (which also appears to be a new feature). Haven't had a chance to look into it yet.

Indeed there is an Hrdi turned on by default I think, you have to change settings in "render settings" tab to use your own lights (change the Hdri for another one, or use different options, like "scene only" if using spot lights/distant lights only, or "Sun/sky"). It's hard to explian in a few words though, your best bet would be to check an Iray tutorial on the Daz forums ;) .
