Description

Hi There =) ! Thank you for the wonderful wonderful comments and favs and likes on my renders. Miho had made another huge land purchase. This time is was a huge forest that was being cut down. So to protect it she had purchased it and went about setting up a invisible shield around the length and breath of the forest. Then she set about documenting the plants and animals in it. She had been using her advanced drones to map the forest and while doing that she came across a man made structure which no one knew about. All her research did not indicate that there was any civilization that once existed there. This was a interesting find and she was excited to go and explore it. She put a few things in her backpack and then decided to use her jet pack to get there. There was no way to hike or drive to where she had noticed the man made structure. She had landed in a small clearing near the mysterious structures and had started exploring. She was amazed by what she was seeing. Time went by and dusk had fallen. There was still some light in the sky. She found an entrance cut into the stones and in front of it on the ground there were markings. Miho decided to look at the marking first. She definitely need more equipment if she was going to explore the entrance and well she just had a lamp, water and a small shovel with her. Not the equipment to go wandering into the unknown with though well she was already wandering in the unknown in the forest with only those items on her. It was hot in the forest. She had tied her shirt around her waist. Suddenly something shiny caught her her. She lifted the lamp and saw something shiny buried in the dark soil. She also saw the skull sticking out of the soil. To her surprise the skull did not look old. So someone in the recent years had indeed found this place before but unfortunately had never made it back to tell others about it. Then her senses picked up something behind her near the entrance cut into the rocks. It was some kind of unknown creature. Miho had no fear so she continued to hold the lamp it the same place and waited to see what the creature did next.... Time stood still and neither the creature nor Miho moved.... About this render: Boy oh boy, this render taught me patience ! I have been enjoying ultra fast rendering time with the rig I had build. Almost all my renders where between 2 to 5 minutes long. On rare occasion I had some longer renders. Nothing ever crossed 20 minutes. But this render caused me headaches and it took me 3 days to get it to render properly ! First was the noise issue. I have never ever done a render where I ran out of rendering samples in Octane. I did a 256000 (max) sample render to see if it would remove the noise. It look more than 7 hours and it did not remove the noise ! I tweaked things and let it render again for hours with no luck. Did a couple of loops of this trying to get the noise out and all attempts failed. Then went to the Octane forum to see if someone had such problems. Luckily found something. It seems if the light source is behind / inside a geometry with specular material, in my case the glass around the lamp bulb, it would produce extremely noisy renders. Followed the suggestions given to change some octane render settings and make the glass more transparent by setting the opacity to around 0.20. After that the render started to clear up. It still took me 40000 samples and close to 2 hours to render this. I also experimented with volumetric light to have a glow around the lamp but that created a very noisy render too and I basically ran out of patience after 3 days of struggling with the render and decided to do it without that effect. I will attempt it later again. For now I think the render this looks ok without it. I am not sure if you can make out the creature in the background. I purposefully kept the render dark. Hope you all like the render ! Rendered in Daz Studio using the Octane Plugin. No post work done. Do zoom in to see details. IRAY has a similar problem with rendering in low light, Rajib. You just have to learn the tricks and sometimes make concessions in order to get what you want. I think your finished product looks really good here and Miho is all smiles! NICE!!!

Yep, you run into similar issues with Iray as well. I've had renders that just don't work well at all. Tossing light through materials with refraction really ramps up the noise level. To get around that, if the noise result isn't too bad, I'll render larger, then reduce by 25-50% (depending on how patient I am to wait for a big render). After some postwork to clear some of the noise, the reduction often gets rid of the rest.

Low lighting is definitely tricky to work with. All your efforts certainly paid off, because your scene looks great - I really like the lighting! Beautiful!

It was worth the wait :) , Iray has it's share of problems too, imho (very slow for indoor scenes, compared to anything outdoor).
