Description

It may come as a surprise to folk who expect to go on holiday abroad every year, (and can afford to do so!) that I don't share this desire. I'm very fortunate that I live a a beautiful part of the world close to sea and country and only about 90 minutes from London if I feel the urge. I have had two holidays since I retired 20 years ago, once to the West coast of Scotland in 1996 and then to Cornwall in 2007 where we stayed in a farmhouse B&B..fabulous! Anyway, wherever I go, an Ordnance Survey map is always my souvenir, as I can look at it at any time and relive the experience. I feel really sorry for anyone who depends on satnav, as this is a linear experience, whereas a paper map lets you see out into the wider view. As you can see I also fell for a few rubbery caterpillars in the Scottish National Trust shop at Culzean castle in Ayrshire!

nice souvenirs I do prefer to use a map (dosnt loose signal or battery either) however my wife and I do holiday abroad every year in Thailand so that she can visit the rest of her family and friends

I have a couple in my family. They travel as soon as they have money for it and it is more than three times a year. Cheap trips to other countries. Just as they got a lovely new apartment, they travelled again a few weeks later :-O Not that I can understand that. Have I been away from home one day, I am so happy, when I am back home again :)

I have a feeling you could explore the British Isles for a lifetime and not get bored. Me, I was born curious. I just have to see what's just over the next hill.

I LOVE travelling! It doesn't have to be exotic though, as anywhere different is a new experience. My next trip will be to Tasmania in a few weeks and then New Zealand for Xmas!
