Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Nice shot. I had to look up the word. In 2004, several schools banned conkers due to fear of causing anaphylactic shock in pupils with nut allergies. Health advisers said that there were no known dangers from conkers for nut-allergy sufferers, although some may experience a mild rash through handling them (Wikipedia). So a 150 year old childhood tradition is fading away due to the overblown fears of adults.

I hear its all smartphones now although how the kids attach the string to the phone is a puzzle to me.

Great photos! Ah! the joys (and pains) of childhood - never to be experienced ever again.

I agree with what has been said here. What we have been playing with as kid, I never heard it really harmed any of us. We made paths in Berberis bushes and in beach rose bushes, which were places all around our apartment block and on the play yard. No one even gave it a thought. We were happy kids.

Good lord, it's a wonder any of us are still alive.

Love the rich colors and nutty textures in your photo. The name reminds me of a slight fear I had at my brother's house in Maine...very tall oak trees were shedding acorns..."BAM" they'd go on the metal roof of his shop...I could picture myself getting conked by a speeding acorn falling 60 feet onto my head at any minute.
