Description

We were here about ten days ago enjoying a gorgeous day on the Atlantic (Portland Harbor, Portland, Maine). The tour boat in the foreground was built in 1927 and is named the Chippiwa. The Lighthouse was built in 1883 and is called the Ram Island Ledge Light Station (one of six in and around the entrances to the harbor). The light was automated in the 1970s. Prior to that keepers would often get stranded there due to inclement winter weather. If you zoom in on this photo, you will find little white dots on the water...these are floats marking lobster traps.

That's a really nice shot, honey! The outlying islands are easy to see, yet still out of reach. Evocative!

Nice photo. Lucky you didn't experience inclement weather spoiling you trip! Reminds me of the weather during WWII and the convoys. 2 oil tankers were broken in half during a winter storm in 1953! This photo is SO peaceful! I love that little boat! Keep up the good work! :-)

My computer went to the repair shop 2 days ago. Hope it comes out functioning! Don't want to buy a 64 bit machine - what happens to all my 32 bit software?

That boat is very cute, but she looks far too tall for her length. Sort of unstable in a breeze! This is such a beautiful place, makes me wish once again that I liked travelling.

That's a really lovely shot, Bill! I see the lobster traps, all right! Dinner awaits! Wait.... I'm still full from J. Gilbert's... LOL

I would love to set up on that rock to the left of the boat, and fly my Inspire out to that lighthouse.

Outstanding color and depth in this shot. I like the variations in the blue water. And much more beautiful than the Los Angeles and San Pedro Harbors, which are extremely industrialized.

Nicely capture Bill! It must be pretty rough and treacherous in winter if it required 7 lighthouses! BTW, regarding your comment on moving to the front of the line, I like it, plus I don't have to worry about dings in the doors.
