Description
The British needed fighter bombers and asked the US for more P-40's which the US could not provide as the production lines were at capacity. North American bid a replacement, the P-51, which was delivered in 102 days after the design process started. USAAC doctrine at the time decreed that the heavily armed bomber would always get through, so super-chargers weren't required, and the idea that long range escort fighters were not practical.
After the Schweinfurt Raid in which a quarter of the planes were shot down, the British took the low performing P-51, added the Rolls Royce Merlin, extra fuel tanks and the future of air war was changed/

Nicely done tribute to the Mustangs, and especially the Merlin. Great job!
