Description

Worker and Parasite set aside ideological differences to indulge together in a potentially materialistic pagan ritual for defying the cold - with Vodka.
Do I see a cheese ration too? Contraband no doubt. I've never been certain which of the pair was supposed to be 'Worker' and which was 'Parasite'. But even these great political rivals can find it in themselves to celebrate their common humanit--, ummm commonality, during the holiday season. For example, they both had mothers who licked their furry little tummies. Hey, it's a start. Perhaps there is hope for us yet. And as some half remembered sage once said, 'Let the coloured lights of hope forever challenge the darkness.' I put up my Christmas tree last night - lit but yet to be decorated. I put the lights on at the same time as I install the branches. Yes, the tree is artificial, bought at a Sears in Hamilton, Ontario nineteen (19) years ago. Adding lights while assembling the tree is harder work but I find that the technique gives the tree greater depth, if you will. The lights are mostly copper coloured mini-lights. A rare and now hard to find mini-light colour which is a slightly ruddy shade amber. The light they give off encapsulates hues of red, orange and gold depending upon the angle of view. The tree ultimately caries about three hundred (300) such lights which cast a splendid warm glow upon the walls. And in addition, along the central spine, I also weave a string of silver-white LED lights which slowly twinkle on and off individually. I find this effect provides a subtle sense of life and motion to the tree as the light patterns change from one moment to another. Still, as lovely as my family tree is now, it's not like the trees of my youth. So it is time for another edition of my Christmas Trees In Cyberspace series. These renderings are to remind us of and honour those magic trees of the past. Trees whose lights I would take days to place, re-place and mix. I worked carefully to balance the colours in number and location. Even old and faded bulbs had a place in my trees - blue Noma bulbs would turn silver over their five year lifespan. Alas, there are so few of such trees these days. Nearly as hard to find as the old school indoor Noma strings which I used to create them. Still, I hope everyone is into the holiday season now. 'Getting Into The Gift Giving Groove', as I said last year. Like Рабочий и Паразит, try to find it in your heart to 'step up shake the hand of someone you can't stand'. Tom Lehrer wasn't singing about Christmas but the principle is the same. Cheers from Canada! Clayton
UPDATE: I had to change the title of this piece to English since Renderosity has a problem accepting Cyrillic text in the title section.

Prefer the artificial ones myself clsyton, Happy Holidays. What a beautiful festive image my friend. One of my cats and a dog destroyed a tree one year while I was shopping. Dog ate all the Christmas bulbs. It was a pit bull great Dane mix. Huge fu×%er!

This is truly beautiful - both the image and accompanying thoughts. I have so many memories of childhood Christmases with real trees, those funky bubble lights, and the festive feel of the season. Somehow that all seems to get lost as we get older. This brings back wonderful memories. Yes, perhaps there is hope for the human species...

Merry Christmas to you, my friend!

Well I'm impressed. With the idea of holding on to a 19-year old artificial tree! As to your render, what a great sentiment and render. I love that you've dedicated this to our mothers! I also love your series. Lovely and charming. Happy holidays.

Have a great Christmas my friend. True how the trees today, don't seem to compare with those fond remembrances of our youth. Lovely scene!
