The top image displays warmth that belies her apparent loneliness Whereas the bottom image brings the loneliness into stark reality, almost too harsh for anyone to bear. Both images are great.

Love how much brighter the lower capture is, Mark. but much enjoy the upper more moody and interesting shot. That golden dark lighting seems best. Pair of great captures my friend.

Original shot is quite beautiful and I also really like the postworked one, as it is more intimate showing the woman.

the top scene is magical. the warm glow of city lights at night... it's just just beautiful! the bottom one is stark and much more serious. the woman stands out like she's the only one left in the world. I wonder if she's expecting a baby...

I like these both a lot, Mark. If I had to pick one among them, I guess it would be the top one for it's luminous warmth & subtlety, but the bottom one certainly brings the human element into sharp focus, though in a very abstract way. They both communicate the urban experience very powerfully...

To be honest, I like the original very well.
If I would edit the photo, I would possibly try the following:

• I would try to lighten up the man in the window (is it a man?) and darken the borders (this could be done very easily with Color Efex Pro)
  
• maybe a vignette for the borders
  Nevertheless, it is a very nice photo.

Mark, I love this! The lone figure in the window with the vastness of the city really illustrates how small and insignificant we sometimes feel.

I'm going back and forth between the images trying to decide which I like better - both are very compelling. I'm leaning towards the top image - I like how the figure is smaller, and placed near the center of the photo. The figure seems to be an island surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city, almost lost in the vastness, yet still an anchor for the eyes, at least for me. My eyes keep going back to the figure. This is superb!.

Oh goodie! I'm glad you posted the original for people to see. You know how much i like the black and white ... we've talked about it before ... but I'm equally in love with the original, for different reasons.

What I like about the original is the larger crop. The woman still comes to the fore, but only after perusing the lights, following the streets, thinking about the buildings. Suddenly there she is, as your eyes scan the image, and you wonder why you hadn't seen her before. It's a more subtle process, but in the end, it's an equally riveting photograph.

Either way ... a masterpiece!

Oh, the bottom one simply speaks to me. And it's quite interesting that the person in the window doesn't show up in the top foto. Just shows how postwork does SO much!! Tara and Helle were right; I'm so glad to posted this!!
