Description

-------------------------- (It's quite big, please zoom!) Some of you might object to the slight blur on the train, but I had few seconds to adjust, and it rained soon after... A mundane subject...but for me a study of urban forms, light and shadow. I was drawn to the challenge of finding poetry in gritty urban sights... Thanks again for your visits! m --------------------------

I can bet there are some stories to be told about this place! As for the train blur, pfff! tis nothing to be concerned about I say - the train just got in the way of the shot. AND, if you were going for the train, I prefer a bit of motion in the shot - it shows that the train was moving and not stopped at any station.

Wonderful capture

jip i also wan't to know Terry's red hot ?You have a eye for detail if you look at it that way there are indeed so many shapes and forms in this picture the b&w makes it feel like a moment in time standing still

Superb! And why is Terry Red Hot? Or in what way is he?
I should like to see a portrait of him to make my own judgement..... or, it's just struck me, is he a she?

If you were going for an example of how to divide a complicated subject into classic thirds, you could not have picked a better image. This thing is divided into thirds in more ways than I can count! Lamp post and tree, building and car, train and track (track and "Terry's Red Hot" sign together, actually), and brick building, train doors ... it's astonishingly complicated, yet deceptively simple. And the juxtaposition between the words "OPEN" and "OUT", randomly scattered below the restaurant sign ... it's brilliant! The "open" sign makes me think one could purchase food there, but the two small signs in the windows make me think they've closed up shop or moved away. I got so interested in this that I looked it up, and Terry's was apparently still open in 2014, but are closed now. So when you took the picture, it probably WAS open for business!

Seeing the train going by gives me a different perspective. It's the doors. When the train is at the platform, the doors open and we walk in and out and never think twice about them. When we're sitting on the train, looking out the windows, watching people, reading a book, we don't think about the doors. But seeing them suspended in space gives this a bit of a surreal feeling for me. I'm sure the doors won't open when the train is in motion (THAT would be a lawsuit just waiting to happen!), but it's the IDEA that they could open at any time. Some guy could just step out and land in front of Terry's Red Hots ... splat.

I was ready to like this, but the more I sat and looked, the more I saw, and I think it might be one of your best shots.

This is a brilliant shot, Mark, and it totally sings in black and white.

You know... I love these urban photos of common places most of us just walk right through with little notice. And B&W suits this so perfectly. I really need to get my butt out there this spring and do more shooting. If nothing else, they make good backgrounds for my Girls! LOL

Stark contrast and detail in this black and white, Mark. TERRY'S RED HOT jumps right out at the observer.

A great picture with good contrast. And the slight sepia and blur of the train make it all the more interesting!💯📸
