Description

Following on from T.Rex's suggestion, here's another of a series of the journey through the Egyptian underworld. This is the third gate of Duat, the lake of fire were the condemned are burned and the blessed pass through unharmed, nourished by the same flames. Here the Pharaoh first battles Apophis, the great chaos serpent and enemy of Ra.

Thanks for following me up on my suggestion! Nice work with this and the text. The lake of fire reminds me of the purgatory ( = purge away sins) in Dante's Inferno. Perhaps something you may find interesting to illustrate once pharaoh has come to his final destination. Keep up the good work! :-)

Its fascinating how more modern tradtiditons of the afterlife draw on the older ones. La Divina Comedia is an excellent idea for some future ispiration... thoiugh first I need to read it! :)

Thanks Glenda. I was worried myslef that the snake (standard DAZ Python) wouldn't work scaled up so much, but surprisingly the texture is fine even at 500%. The flames are from mostdigitalcreations, and are one of the most useful props in my toolbox. Lightwise couldnt be simpler... one wide orange spot, one narrow white one, job done!
