Description
This cutie is Ella. She's a private detective in New York City. She's tough, resourceful, and is very good at what she does. Despite her talents, however, she is finding it difficult to make ends meet over the last few years. Prospective clients seem to be under the impression that she's not as experienced or capable as her male competitors. And the fact that many of them do everything in their power to discredit her, and steer potential clients away makes her life even more difficult. It's a cut-throat business, and good as she is, the odds seem stacked against her.
She rents this cheap dive of an office in a seedy part of town, and has found herself behind on her rent more than once. Her landlord has informed her that if she falls behind again, he will take steps to evict her. She's had a couple fairly low paying jobs from female clients; mostly jealous wives suspecting their husbands of playing around, but nothing that does much more than pay the rent, and buy a few groceries. She sometimes spends time just looking out the window and dreaming of a better life, just to ease the depression a bit.
Although she's unaware of it, her life will change soon......
This was more fiddling with lighting in preparation for.........well, you'll just have to wait and see!
I put ball props around each one of the lamps, and used the ambient light node to make them into light emitters. I unchecked 'visible in camera' in the render settings so they don't show up in the render, but still emit light when the 'indirect light' is ticked in render settings.
Hope you all enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it! I hope everyone is having a good weekend, and those who are under the weather are feeling better soon! Thanks for dropping by, and for all your comments and support. I do appreciate those of you who stop by, and especially those who take the time to leave an encouraging word or two.

Dude! Freaking awesome room, props and lighting in this piece. I have Ella on my mind, Tina might need to hook up with her on some cases when she's in the NY office. Heck she'll hire her full time so she can move from the seedy part of the city. I enjoy all your creations my friend. Great story, Rod. You have many talents. Enjoy Sunday.

Sam, some Bogart-type PI: Look, sweetheart. This ain't the life for dames like you. Don't worry none about not being taken seriously. Even if you did make the score, how long you think it'll be before some mook or even the mob take a shining to you, and you end up six feet under? You're too much a pretty one for that. Be a secretary, or a waitress. Live above the shadows. Leave the dirty stuff to us hard legs, eh?
Ella: [Snorts] Nice to know you think sooo much for my safety, Sam. Thanks but no thanks. My calling is where it is. Here and now. I ain't no one's secretary, and I'm damn well ain't no freakin' waitress! I can handle things, even if I ain't hard legs like you. Now scram, Sam!
Great noir-like scene, Rod. I hope good fortune comes to Ella. The more some folks underestimate her, the more satisfying her payback's going to be.

Sweet work you did here, like to see where this leads...

Well, Rod, out-doing yourself in a different genre! Big, empty spaces suggest her emptyness (or rather, that of her wallet!). No electronics, not even a phone. How does she get clients? Only electric stuff are the lights. And THANKS a LOT for telling us how you made the lighting. Maybe even my computer will manage that! And congratulations - you and Richardphoto got my "What's this?" post right. A seed crumb from a sandwich fallen into a drop of water in my sink! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to what happens next! :-)

Well done, my friend! Outstanding introduction to this new character! I love the hanging line informing us that she is unaware that her life will soon change. And this set looks so great. So perfect for the circumstances you described. Masterful work with this lighting too, the shadow of the blinds is so awesome, and that is really going the extra mile with the emitting props. Fantastic. Most excellent work, Rod!!!! PS .... I love the reflection on the safe.

HAHA! Maybe if she was a bit more decent dressed, they would have more confidence with her :))) Excellent creation anyway :)

I have to tell you Rod, I always knew you were a good writer, but your description here shows just what a good writer you are. You really spell out a story, with terrific backstory details, and character qualities, etc. Like someone said above, this would make a fine noir scene, with Raymond Chandler-esque writing. (I have a few Chandler-esque tales laying around, I should see if I can resurrect them.) (This calls for lots of "yeah that's right, I'm a sleuth, a gumshoe, a PI, a street dick, pounding the pavements for a punch-drunk palooka from poughkeepsie, who makes my heart jump like a school kid on crystal meth...") Love the dark hues, the reflection of Ella in the safe---and that's one pristine safe! she sure takes care of her dive---and great emptiness, shadows, and those old tube lights on the wall, and the one bulb high on the ceiling...and she's a beauty, sitting in the dim light of a window, looking at us with real toughness and a tinge of vulnerability...I don't know if she's going to show up in your TNA stories, but you definitely have something going here! With a side story of the idiocy of men towards women. I hope you go further with this (as she saunters into the sunset in the sultry sullied back-alleys of sin-city...) Terrific, rich upload, Rod. (I just love the reflections in that safe, and the blinds on the wall...a whole world here...)

Excellent job on the scene! Hope her luck changes soon.
