Whenever I see "mighty oak," I think of Python's "Lumberjack Song" (it starts with something about the mighty oaks, pines, something like that...) A portrait of a tree as melancholy, or a windblown but strong monument to life, in a landscape that seems parched and lonely. Terrific work. There may be homes around, or other signs of life, but your composition zeroes in on this bare tree and the parched amber-green tones of a desolate winter landscape; with a lonely road to the left. And atmospheric mountains in the background. The sky is more midwest than western (to me): This is the color you see before thunderstorms and tornadoes. Beautiful, haunting work. The tree dominates it all, as if it has old haunting stories to tell.

I like the contrasts in this. Light/dark, ground/sky, valley/mountain. It's a gorgeous landscape, and your inclusion of the road puts me right there. I have often tried to shoot a lone tree like this, but my results have never approached what you've done here! This is superb.
