Description
Clarinets and flutes galore as this high school group proudly steps lively in celebrating the 50th birthday anniversary of my city, captured way back in August of 2007.
On reflection, marching band dress codes have really relaxed compared to years ago. This bunch looks like they just stepped off the plane from Hawaii.

Another striking shot of the contrasts, saturated hues and repetitions of a marching band. You got the rhythms of their movements, the repetitions, the mix of horizontal (their path, the street) with vertical (them, their shirts and pants and legs), etc. And, miraculously, you caught their legs almost entirely in the same formation: Left leg slightly up. And yep, those are clarinets and flutes. (I think I see a brass instrument in the back, center---maybe a cornet? a trumpet? I don't know.) Perfected capture of the parade of forms from a marching band. Fine work, Harry. And btw, a woman in the center seems to have light purple pants---she stands out, and she's right in the center of the shot. Perfect placement.
Re the outfits: I played in a marching band in high school---I played a snare drum (and was kicked out because I couldn't drum to save my keester). But I know those old outfits: You felt you were in a straight jacket, but they made you look regal. If we ever showed up to practice in these outfits? We'd be thrown out in a new york minute...
