Description

Goodall Mills Sanford, Maine October, 2016 I love old brick walls that have been changed and remodeled and filled in and cut out and re-purposed and fiddled with. :)

Very nice colors and patterns but it is the asymmetry that fascinates me. The perfect lines on the right window until you get to the upper left hand corner. The mishmash of bricks on the lower portion of the window on the left. What's up with all that?

Here they make high end apartments out of such places, but the big selling point is the huge windows! I should hate to be shut in what could amount to a cell when the airier option was possible! Mark is right, what a mess they made of the fill-in.

I love the bricks they placed over the window(s) Sems there were larger windows before. Love this brick wall. After I once read, what Chip thought about bricks, I also wonder, what could be written in these bricks LOL !

some discussion here about the bricks which were used to fill-in around the edges of the left window area. Yeah, true that! But in a mill, I don't think anyone cared about 'looks'. Besides, these old New England mills had a look all their own. (We lived right up the street from one, in ruddy old Worcester, Mass---pronounced "Wuss-tah," btw---and it was a beauty!) A great abstract, and, for all the bricks, very simple and minimalist. I love the title (wink), but even without that association, it's a terrific capture of the rhythms and stanzas of bricks; and the variations formed by edges and curves; and of course by a replaced window and a totally-gone window. Cropped perfectly. Terrific wall shot, and somehow just right for a New England mill. (I wish I'd had a camera when I was living in N.England: I'd have gone crazy taking pics of places like these...they were everywhere, back then...)

minimalism only works where there's a sound idea. love the title as well.
