It's been a very long time since I've commented on your always exceptional work, and I won't make this the only one. I'm only back for a night and part of a day, so I'll do one tonight (to end my 2 hours here tonight), and I'll do more soon after. While I wanted to comment on CeeCee---who's gorgeous (and beautifully painted by you)---and a bunch of others (incl some animal paintings that jumped off the page, one in a luminous green), I chose this because of its very powerful strokes, flows, undulations, etc, all of which are at the heart of all flowers.

As always, your strokes on the petals are rich and very sensual, and pulse and swish across the surface. Great movement and energy, and all very sensual. And you give real furls and life to each petal, so that, as they pile up on each other, they form this massive symphonic choral work, everything pulsing and vibrating and undulating. It's a big very intense bouquet of energies and hues.

You've got separation between the petals, I don't know how---I think through some deft use of lighter outlines around the petals, but also through your use of shade and light, making each flower a brittle silken effusion all to itself. The leaves at bottom---above the rim of the pot---are beautifully painted, in sensual furls, with a fine use of white lines in the leaves. The pot is a like a dream-of-a-pot, undulating and filled with growths: very imaginative, it just continues the intensity of the flowers; and since it's imaginary, you can make the leaves however you want. Your use of outlines around many of them---lighter outlines---sets them apart from each other and gives them a great deal of life, one after the next.

On the bottom, you have leaves coming near the vase/pot, on both sides, as if rushing in to greet it and surround it. And your background is a brilliant touch: It's like a fabric version of the flowers, like those old 19th C. wallpapers---only this has undulation like a silk sheet. The flowers are fainter and therefore more delicate; and you've let your hues, on this 'sheet', morph and change as we go up and down and across it. They make an undulating background to the bouquet...or, a better way of saying it: They pick up the immense energies of the bouquet and give them back through their own sensual undulations and ripples. Everyone's in sync here, everyone's listening to everyone else. Beautiful flower work back there.

The hues, overall, are doused in pinks and purples of every kind. The greens are bright, the yellows are deep; everything seems to fit, and it's like a big salad of the soul, putting on a kind of banquet-show for us, surrounded by some of your most beautiful pinks and dark yellows. Gorgeous work, Carol. Just gorgeous. A triumphal piece of art. It's just stunning. You're a genuine master.

Mark, I always enjoy your wonderful and very detailed comments so much. And I'm so glad you enjoyed this artwork. I had fun creating this, as I do all in my Flowers In Fancy Vases series. I like the idea of painted flowers that last forever, because I am always so sad to see the real ones in my garden fade. We have such a short growing season up in the mountains that the flowers never last long enough. And, of course, I always lose myself in the amazing textures and colors. Painting flowers takes me to another world and it is a very nice place to be.
