Description

After several rehearsals the teacher had all her students lined up and perform for the audience, mostly the proud parents. It was interesting to watch, all these kids already had individual personalities, but they all did their best. Watching this, and performances by other classes, brought back some fond memories of when I was about their age, in the summer of '48, between the 2nd and 3rd grade. We had a couple of young, good-looking female teachers that spent part of the summer with us kids and kept us occupied. They invented interesting games and activities every day, and the good thing was these young women were energetic enough to not run out of energy. While watching these performances here, I notice one girl wearing a head scarf, probably being of Muslim faith. Up to that point I didn't pay much attention to the racial diversity, but after that I noticed a little boy wearing a top knot, which indicated to me that he was probably of the Sikh faith. I realized that the student body was a mix of Asian-American, African-American, Hispanics, and Whites, and nobody cared. They were all students of the Litchfield Park Elementary School District, which is an 'A' rated district, based on top performance. Watching this teacher and others, have their classes perform for the parents made me realize how important teachers are during the formative years of young kids.. This picture was taken on 11 February 2017, Sig...

Beautiful photo. I grew up in the USA and have had experiences with all kinds of teachers. But one thing stands out - never was I or class mates seen as different or foreign. This was in the 1950s and early 1960s. It's sad to see how differences have become accentuated to the point where some young persons are not allowed to be themselves. Something very bad has happened there, and elsewhere in the world. And it's not the children! It's the adults! Keep up the good work! :-)

We are a land of immigrants and that is our great strength! You have proved that, Sig, as my grandparents and all other immigrants have.
