Description

Taken from the Golden Gate Bridge. A few minutes after I took this picture, this surfer fell over into the water & became separated from his kite. As we watched, the wind & currents were separating them further & further apart. A sailboat came by & tried to come to his aid, but they were unable to get sufficiently close in the heavy wind. My wife was concerned for his safety, but there were quite a few powered boats nearby & I'm sure he was able to get help (though he was blown under the bridge where we could no longer see him)... A terrific capture! We saw a couple of wind surfers on a reservoir in Utah a few years ago, and I seem to recall that we both took a lot of relatively crappy pictures of them! LOL! It gives me a solid appreciation for what you were able to accomplish with this picture.

I hope he was okay, and that he recovered his gear.

Very nice capture.
I have high respect for kite surfers. Their sport can be fun but it can be very dangerous also.

Fine photo. Just looked up windsurfing near the Golden Gate Bridge and found a story or two exactly like this man's situation. By the time the Coast Guard launched a helicopter to go look for the missing surfer, he was no longer among the living. Hope your guy fared better.
