Description
Hello,
This is RAF Cosford's latest item.. It's 'BOB, otherwise known as XR808, RAF folk being what they are, the code soon got turned into BOB and for decades it has been called that..
It's a Vickers VC10, ordered new and built at Vickers at Brooklands in 1961!!! It served full time, through several conflicts including both Gulf wars, Falklands and Afghanistan etc, until retired in 2012.
VC10's hold the record as longest serving aircraft in the RAF..
They also still hold the record for fastest Atlantic crossing (apart from Concorde) by an Airliner, JFK to Prestwick, Scotland, touchdown, 5 hours and one minute.. Never been broken to this day.
You can go inside..
This is a new photo lol Taken on a very grey day this year.

BOB is looking good for all the years he's worked. Great shot

I find myself suppressing the need to identify it as an IL-62 to satisfy my summiteer. Of course it is by Vickers and the reason I met Tom Werner after visiting Lucas on the day I was shorting out a need to go the Fanuc/GM joint venture. Managing an ancestor is not easy when bicycles and knockoffs (Rudge) are involved along with movies.

BOB is in great shape and I hope they keep him that way. Outside displays have a way of looking poorly after a few years. G!lad one can climb aboard
