Description
Second of two 'Arty' Peacekeeper photo's I took at Cosford, tried to take more bits of instead of whole items this trip, some worked, some were poo!
This is a full (almost) shot of late paint scheme RAF Bloodhound Missile and a Thor ICBM, bought from the U.S. until U.K. items were in place.. Again, such items were under RAF control, not army. Polaris is now of course Navy.
New aircraft at Shuttleworths Navy Day : Westland Wildcat (Lynx replacement.) Not seen one as yet. They also have TWO Wasp's, and a Gazelle. No Swordfish on the list.. :-(

Oh, so the white one's a Thor ICBM. I've heard of them but never seen one. Thanks! Looks rather small for an ICBM. The close in and odd angle of the Bloodhound has me puzzled a bit as to angle of view. This makes viewing a challenge (in a positive way!). Keep up the good work! :-)

I spent some time working in the Thor Assembly Building (TAB) at Huntington Beach, California. Some of the lore is about straight eight Thors after being six feet in diameter and having an eight foot section added on at a point. Their magic moment was in Turkey during the Cuban Missile Crisis. More recently a Thor as a DELTAII version lifted the Pathfinder rover to Mars. They also were the heavy lifter for launch of NAVSTAR which became GPS. I am quite fussy about SAMs where radar brings in my father's reverence for WW-II systems. Doppler or pulse? PD! my oh my, I'll just leave Dicke fix and STC to migrate to color TV.

Love these shots!

A great shot and info Rob. I live quite near Yeovil so I get to see all the helicopters out on test runs.

Afaik Thor was a IRBM, not ICBM. Means lesser range than ICBM. But who cares on designations when they are in action... I hope, one day all nuclear weapons will disappear...
Great shot, Rob. I love missiles... :o)
