On most US military bases in their mess halls on a day as this there is a table and setting for those that will never return. It's there to remind the service members that freedom has a price and some will pay it, and even if that price is called for they will not be forgotten. There is and always will be a place for them. I've been out of the military for many years. But I have always held this day as one to reflect and remember all my brothers and sisters that fell out there keeping our country safe from all enemies bent on our destruction. I drive commercial trucks these days. While it is similar to being in the military it is different. But there are truck stops dotted across this great nation of ours that remembers. Like the mess halls of the military they too set up a place for those who did not return. So they are remembered and always welcome. This morning, I had some breakfast with my brothers and sisters who are never coming home as they left. But will always be in my heart, and my memory.
