Description
A long time ago there was a 3D art site (I don’t recall it’s name.) where they had a rather interesting Christmas image contest.
The premise was that dear old saint nick was actually Odin and that he had had an accident or something that effectively wiped his memory of his past life. Odder still was he had invented a new persona that was kind and gentle and gave presents to the humans of the world. His pantheon was also effected and assumed roles to fit Odin’s perception of the world.
The challenge was to take Christmas traditions and warp them in that light.
I entered the challenge but I don’t recall how I did. I thought I was pretty clever with the idea I ran with..
That Odin, or Santa had done battle with a fearsome demon and utterly defeated it and enslaving it to mine coal to feed the massive furnaces that drove the factory making toys and whatnot. The demon labored for several thousand years. To the point it had forgotten it’s own actual name, taking “Kohll” as its name as that what was yelled to it to keep mining and shoveling.
Eventually, Santa relented a little and gave the demon an additional job on the day of Christmas. Presumably its only day off. The demon would be sent with a minder to ensure it did its job correctly and well.
“Merry Chri...Excuse me?”
…
“Oh, I’m sorry we are early but you see the naughty list IS rather long this year.”
…
“Oh no, you aren’t getting a lump of coal. That would be silly, coal is useful as a fuel. I’m afraid you misunderstood the phrase. The Naughty get a lump FROM Kohll..This is Kohll by the way.”
..
“Well, The boss doesn’t send us to the little ones, that I’m sure you’d agree would be far too traumatic. Just the warning from mommy and daddy normally does the trick. As for the Adults that refused to learn however..”
..
“No, there is no mistake. You are at the top of the list, you are even underlined, with three frowny faces. Don’t worry, I’ll delete your internet browser history before we leave..Alright Kohll sweetie...
