Yes, our skies actually get this mean in the Midwest. This is the eerie 'stillness' you get just before all hell breaks loose.
I posted another version of this a ways back...
I'm a third of the way through comments, and I decided to stay till I finish. It's more relaxing. It's a great pleasure being here again!
Finally, a few of you asked what was wrong with me.
I had heart issues. Not major, but with family-history of heart disease, I have to be careful. I've been sending out writing, the last months, and it's been much been harder than I anticipated. Writing empties me--even the humorous stuff: I'm like a wet rag afterwards. I truly love it, but I'm trying to find the 'rhythm' for my age, 'cause I've been working as if I were 40, not 68.
Also, my sister got deathly ill last year, just I was beginning to take a long rest. She got rid of her cancer, but remained violently ill from the drugs; so I only started to rest this spring. (Not complaining, as she went through hell. But it's why I never got much rest. Was doing some commercial work as well.)
So I'm still catching up. For those of you who asked, I eat well, I'm strict vegetarian (developed with nutritionists and doctors years back); and I exercise each day. But I need to do special exercises. And above all, I need to rest.
I'm also submitting music (classical, jazz, ethnic, some pop), but am tabling it to rest more. It's odd...at a time when I have time, and enough means for my most personal work, there've been lots of illnesses around me, and I haven't found the right work-patterns yet. I'm working on it though. Thank you for all your concern; and I hope that explains things a little better.
A wonderful Sunday to all.
Peace,
Mark

fabulous capture, Mark! You got to take care of yourself - sometimes you just got to stop and eat the flowers

Everybody else is probably enthralled with the striking lines of the buildings, the marvelous, contrasty B&W, the sparkling reflected light,...but me? All fascinated by your addition of a bird standing on top of a bath toy:-)))
Know the sleep-exercise-eat-work-play routine will manifest itself to you in time. Meanwhile, continue to wish you well my friend. Oh, and many thanks for comment on my, "Museum Staircase". And, now I know who Piranesi was...which inspired my post today (6/4/2017).

Stunning compo! Classy mono shot!

Striking composition of sharp black and white detail in this posting, Mark, as if was actually the negative of the original. Superb atmosphere and contrast. And, I see the bird over to the right, trying to look discreet so as not to spoil the scene. And, after all of this time, I'm pretty well familiar with your trials and tribulations healthwise, both yours and your sister's, so all l can do is continually commiserate and empathize, and wish you the best in all categories of life as time goes by.

Brilliant composition and crop. This belongs in a gallery or a museum somewhere. It's glorious!
It's one of life's little tricks, that time, money and energy never come to us at the same time. With means generally comes less leisure time. Or the means accrue late in life and the energy isn't there. Or one is unemployed and has all the time in the world and no money. I applaud you for getting the rest you need, and paying attention to how this is all coming together.
Take good care, and we'll see you when we see you. Love you loads!

a fantastic shot, the bird looks like he's waiting till the last minute to fly home. take care of yourself my dear friend. I know what it's like to not get the rest you need, but do try anyway. (((hugs)))

What a wonderful photo, Mark, and yes - midwest skies can take on a Mordor-ish look quickly once they roll into the neighborhood.
Sounds like you've definitely been through some tough times, buddy! I feel your pain...We had much the same with both Jo's folks and mine during their final years. It's not easy, and it takes a good, long while to recover from. Take it slow, and take care of yourself, bro!

This has to be one of the most amazing shots I've ever seen!! The building itself is imposing, but then there's that light pole with the bird on top of it-----HOW did you manage that??? I just love this foto!!
Life throws us some nasty curveballs and you've had more than your share. I'm glad your sister is responding to her medications; sometimes it seems the cure's worse than the disease. Anything heart related can be beyond scary; I can't imagine how it must be.
It's always good to see you here!!

A very unique composition - it seems to break all the rules, yet despite that (or maybe because of it), it works. My mind wants to make a connection between the bird & that blinding flash of light on the building, but I can't quite perceive what it is...
I'm roughly the same age as you, Mark (about a year younger) & it's an age where, unfortunately (but inevitably), things tend to break down & our friends & loved ones are experiencing health issues also. Sounds like you need to find some aspect of your creative life to scale back a little in order to allow your mind & body to get the rest they need. But you already know that - you just need to do it!

I REALLY like what you did here. The color, the post work and the bird mesmerized by the reflected sunlight while standing on his hovercraft (that is what it is, isn’t it?). Outstanding all around.
My experience is not in your league trouble wise but I have noticed that when I was young I could eat as much as I wanted but did not have any money. Now that I have money I can’t eat anything. Just another example of Murphy’s Law; “Whatever can go wrong will and at the worst possible time.”
Take care of yourself, buddy. That’s the most important thing.

This composition is just amazing. Nobody but you could see and photograph it this way. It is just genius and i love it. I am sorry you have had heart issues. This is a month ago, so I sincerely hope you are recovered, but I also know you are demanding very much from yourself, but please do take more care. You owe yourself to do that, dear Mark :) I Know it is hard to resist, when the muses are singing to you, but still, give yourself more rest please. :)
