Here the new bed of macadam is ready for placement of new pipes. The segments are carefully propped up and then welded together.
The system works very well and is an energy saver. It is also used to generate electricity by use of steam from excess heat.
Several years ago a pipe near the train station burst, sending a jet of super hot water into the air. Investigation showed the ground under the pipe had settled and the pressure from vehicles on the street above cracked a welding. I came by as the water was squirting - rather unpleasant, but also dramatic. Sorry, I didn't have my camera along, so I got no photos to show you of that drama!

That would be impressive to see, however I'd stay clear of such events I know what superheated steam can do to the human body and it ain't pretty

This system sounds like it's pretty efficient and environmentally friendly. We could do this here in the USA, but too many greedy utility companies would lose out on new carpet in the company Lear jet every year...
