I have no idea what this is used for, ergo the title.
Captured back on 1/17/2011, very early in the morning, about a block from home.

The unknown is always a crisp good feeling even when it is metal.

I have no idea what that thing is either, it's just very evocative, esp as it's sitting out there like a lone landmark in the wilderness. Your composition is pure formal abstraction, a fine eye for lineup of forms and lines. The light is from behind and the left, and is quite intense. And the object and shadow are very dark, making it a good contrast. Your tilt fits the lines and patterns, and brings home the abstraction of this. First rate seeing and composing, Harry. This is minimal yet definitely rich.

Wonderful Work,

I could be wrong, but I believe the post is a ventilator for a storm drain, or sewer, or whatever other space would be under the street at that spot. Nicely captured.

it makes a creepy long shadow! capture some other shadows, compose them all to one horror scene! lol that would be cool 😊

A perfect shot of whatever it is. Just when the sun was shining through the holes. Perfect !
