Description

Came back from New Zealand on Tuesday to very hot weather. It was 30 F in Christchurch, New Zealand when we took off, and after a total of 14 1/2 hrs in the air, plus another 6 hrs on the ground I came back to this. Mondays high in Phoenix was 118 F, Tuesday, the day I returned it was 119 F officially at the airport (on my patio in the shade it reached 124 F) and yesterday 'only' 117 F. The only thing to do is stay inside. There are a lot of heat related emergencies, and power consumption on Tuesday set a record. Fortunately no power failures. The sunset didn't look any different than many other sunsets, but somehow it just looked hot, I wonder if it was because I stood outside while taking the picture. Well it is cooling down. Today's high was 'only' 113 F and the overnight low 91 F but the dew point is coming up slightly and there were some thunder storms in Southeast Arizona. So far this year we had 10 days of rain dropping 2.41 inches. June is our driest month, 0.01 inch of precipitation on average This picture was taken on 20 June 2017, Sig....

welcome back Sig. I feel for you about the weather. in the 70's I was working near New Orleans and when I left for home it was 80 F, but in Dallas the temperature was 17F with a major wind chill. I was ready to return to work

I still completely fail to understand why anyone lives where you do!

It has been 30C /86F here and I felt too ill to go outside. Trapped indoors for most of the day for 5 days. Not able to garden, Grrrr!

I see no point in living anywhere where one has to stay in in daylight, but I suppose you have your reasons, Sig!

@durleybeachbum: You are making a good point Andrea, but most people that have come here to live, (many come from other universities here to go to graduate school) never go back to their home states but settled here. Their argument is that while you and others deal with the cold, rain, snow and other adverse weather, people here enjoy a mild , pleasant, sunny winter, Golf is a major attraction, so are other outdoor activities. A couple hundred miles away are mountains that provide skiing in winter and pleasant mild weather in summer. Hotels are discounted in summer but charge premium rates in winter, There also are a lot of high -tech companies here that provide good-paying jobs in the electronic field and research facilities. Overall one learns to just settle down in summer, or go to a second home in the mountains (those that can afford it) or go to Porto Penasco in Mexico on the Sea of Cortez or to San Diego.
