Description

I coulda had a V8! So, seven was magnificent, and eight is great... But is eight enough? Okay, so I splurged on Victoria 8 and a few... other things... Gimme a break, I hadn't spent a cent on 3D in a year and a half! So, I wanted to line them all up for your comparison. Many thanks to Wikipedia for helping me get the dates straight, and yes, I have been around since the beginning. Left to right, we have: Poser 4 Nude Woman (1999): Also known colloquially as "Posette", she is included because she started the revolution. She was the first figure with interchangeable clothes, which spawned a cottage industry of user-created content and also gave grown men who were never allowed to play with Barbie dolls something to do in their spare time. See how far we've come! Victoria 1, the Millennium Woman (1999): Wow, Millie, er, Vicki, is so detailed compared to Posette! That transmapped hair looks so realistic compared to Posette's Max Headroom hair! But, there is something wrong with her fingers, no wait, they fixed that. Check out all those head morphs! Monkey face? Ha, good times. Wow, Vicki is pretty endowed on top. Down below, not so much. What's that, you say? You can fake it with a texture map? Tell your spouse that. Victoria 2 (2001): Okay, we're getting a little closer to anatomical correctness here. And woah, would you look at all those awesome morphs! There are a lot... A WHOLE lot... Wow, the file sizes are huge. I only needed, like, one morph here. Surely there is a solution, somehow... Victoria 3 (2002): Ahh, injection morphs are the answer! Gee, they could have at least had a FEW morphs preloaded though. (We'll have to wait for the Special Anniversary Edition for that.) This was the incarnation that really caught people's attention, and she came along at just the right time. She was the one who popularized the NVIATWAS, after all! Victoria 4 (2006): Still the champ more than ten years later, and the preferred figure of Poser users. Probably the most widely supported 3D character in the world. Victoria 5 (2011): Hold on. You're saying that Victoria is no longer a figure, but only a shape? And a person needs to buy the pro bundle to make her anatomically correct? No way. I am totally not doing that. Ehh... Victoria 6 (2013): The last version to natively support Victoria 4 texture maps. If you need to use V4 maps, like multiple freckle-faced redhead textures for some reason, this is probably your girl. Victoria 7 (2015): I don't know. She seemed to get a little more traction than the previous two. Victoria 8 (2017): Ahh, now this is something. I think with a carefully-lit Iray render (unlike this) we're on the verge of looking real. To me, skin has reached a completely real look. I'm still waiting for the eyes, teeth, and hair to catch up. Maybe by the time we see Victoria 12... And then, no more Hollywood actors--?? A few more notes... First, I've never been a fan of ripped abs on women, but it seems somebody is. On a related note, V1-V4 needed to look like a neutral starting point, but V5-V8 needed to look like someone specific. Clearly, each incarnation was modeled after someone's ideal beauty... Right? I don't know about you, but I think V7 looks suspiciously like Alyssa Milano... Do you see any other celebrity resemblances? Tallest: Victoria 8 at 184 cm / 6'1". Shortest: Victoria 5 at 170 cm / 5'7", as I measure them. Oh, yes, a tip of the hat to long forgotten figures, Aiko 1 and Stephanie 1. And, one last thing, a sign of the times: notice how most V3 textures have very thin, highly arched eyebrows. Note how V8 textures have thicker eyebrows. Tastes change over the years! Anyway, thanks for reading this long tale of the Vickies. Now go out there and create something amazing!!

Ah but V3 is still my girl. Maybe when V12 comes along I'll consider branching out a little.
