Description
I got a call last year during the time we had such a drought. There was very little food as the acorns did not form.
Pretty much all wildlife from the mouse to the bears eat them. When a black bear does not have enough food,
the body does not grow. Food is diverted to the brain, heart lungs and such. This little girl was 10 pounds and
10 months old. I took this after we had her in the cage ready for transport. Even though she was small, she was
old enough to know I was not her friend. I used the chicken on my kabob that I was taking home for supper.
She finished the chicken, then the tomatoes and then the peppers. Then she announced to me that I needed to die as
I had no more food. And she would have been happy to do the job! I have only had to deal with bear twice now.
I can tell you that even a 10 pound bear is strong enough to frogmarch me around when on the end of my catch pole!
The bear center names all the bears that come there. They chose Flora for her. She released and is doing well.
They collared the last years bears so that a study could be done to see how they are adapting to the wild.

OH, MY! Grizzly? No, not in your state. But a 10 month 10 pound hungry bear is no cuddly teddy! Thanks for the description. And the fun way you wrote it. I'm glad you could manage her and that she was released. How long did you have her? And did she at some point in time see you as anything else than "not my friend"? How did you manage? Keep up the good work! :-)
My rat-ing - 6 scared little rats! Bear food? Oh, NO!

I agree with all the others posts, you do a wonderful job. Will this little girls be safe? Will she be hunted, I hope not & she has a wonderful life.

Bears are nothing to mess with! We live in a heavily wooded park, and often see bear scat. I haven't seen the bear, but I saw a bobcat a few weeks ago. It pays to be alert and keep one's distance!
