Description

Arriving from the other end of the train. No. 475 just returned from Paradise... Paradise Junction, Pa. She returned her load of passengers to Strasburg station and is now preparing to take the next batch out for a lookee see at the Amish countryside with a running narration of what's what and what's not. The outbound train runs "tender first" so that everyone can admire the engine properly as it returns to civilization. Given this was not a high-volume day for riders, only one engine was running. Usually they have two trains working and at the midway point they pass each other. IIRC this is / was advertised as the only place in North American where steam-powered passenger trains pass each other due to scheduled service. There is also a picnic spot at this point, so riders may detrain to nosh and watch to resume their journey on a later train. (ISTR a 425 on the Reading and Blue Mountain line pulling a consist of "Edison" coaches -- lighting supplied by electricity rather than oil lamps. This link will take you to a .pdf of the current equipment roster.) Anyhow, we will get some more shots of the engine, some interior shots, and I'm going to upload my "footage" of the coupling which follows this image. Figured you'll like a real-live movie pitcher of the action. Enjoy; thanks for viewing. Just found the reference to the station building: East Petersburg station on the Lancaster Branch of the Reading RR. The yard tower is the former Pennsylvania RR Lemoyne interlock tower. Good to see these things still in use.

Oooh, what a nice photo. Not straight on, nor too much to the side. Looking forward to more photos of this loco and cars! Keep up the good work! :-)
