Description
Captured indoors back on 6/29/2011, at the semi beautiful Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in semi beautiful San Pedro, California.
Sea anemones are a group of water-dwelling, predatory animals of the order Actiniaria. They are named for the anemone, a terrestrial flower. Sea anemones are classified in the phylum Cnidaria , class Anthozoa, subclass Hexacorallia. Anthozoa often have large polyps that allow for digestion of larger prey and also lack a medusa stage. As cnidarians, sea anemones are related to corals, jellyfish, tube-dwelling anemones, and Hydra.

Looks like a large specimen with lots of tendrils (if that's what they're called)...

It's really a beautiful creature.

Under water Medusa. Predatory, but it's attached to the bottom, so how does it get food? I'll have to look this up. Sixty years since I read about them. Time to refresh my memory! Keep up the good work! :-)

The light on this is wonderful, Harry. Delicious. I don't know how you did it, but in a murky sea environment, with all that green and hazy water, you got this anemone shining like a super nova. Beautiful light and contrast with the darker portions of its body; some of the tentacles are purple and aqua blue: You got beautiful colors in this. And the rest of the place is the usual soft underwater melange one sees in all aquariums; only this one has some beautiful bright blue shells in it. (Ie, around the anemone.) And the background looks like an art museum! I know it's not, but from here it looks like this anemone is a main display in an art museum. Wonderful uplifting shot.
