Description

OK, here's the first of a few I'll post... This is actually a reflection in a puddle of water in my driveway! This is a couple minutes after the 22 seconds of totality we had here. I feel lucky to have been able to experience it at all, as we had non-stop thunderstorms from about 7:30 AM to slightly after 11:30. It cleared up, but there were a few random clouds floating in and out. And wouldn't you know it.... JUST as we went into our 22 seconds of totality, a freakin' cloud rolled over the sun/moon. We did get to see the "diamond ring" although I didn't get a photo of it. I didn't have the proper filter for my EOS6D, and I sure didn't want to take a chance on burning out the sensor! I really like the way this one turned out, though. It was an amazing experience, nonetheless. Trying to manage 2 cameras, a drone, and an Ipad doing a time-lapse was interesting. But I still managed to stop and just enjoy the event - and it was awesome! I'll have a few stills from the drone, as well as doing some video editing, to post on YouTube. I'll post a link once it's up. Hope everyone got a chance to pause for a moment and enjoy the experience. Thanks for dropping by, and for any comments you wish to leave!

I think the clouds made it look way cooler... I've posted my eclipse shots in Richardphotos' eclipse post. Are you sure that's not a picture of the moon from last night?! I'm just kidding... Beautiful shot!

in all my life, I've seen hundreds of crescent moons, but today was the first time to see a crescent sun - we had 99% totality

Great idea to shoot it in a puddle reflection - came out very well. We had 93% here in Medford, Oregon...

I never thought about using a puddle. I actually used a very dark xray as a filter

Very cool Rod. I managed to catch a glimpse through my glasses just before the clouds covered it up. This is actually my third solar eclipse.

WOW! I see a big monster face with a shining eye and two black nostrils to to the right and a long jaw below. Hope you didn't get bitten, or loose a drone to it! Those clouds did a fantastic job, as did the puddle! Good thinking! Looking forward to more creativity from you! Keep up the good work. This is SO cool! :-)

I don't know if you'll get this soon, but I just got the news about your flooding from Mike's gallery. And I wanted to wish you all the best in dealing with those floods. I'm really sorry this fell on you...I've seen, I think, all of your videos (and loved them), so I feel like your basement is almost 'home' to me now, and I can't imagine the place with water all over. God, I hope you can salvage things, and that your equipment was ok. (Your comment to Mike said you thought so---I really hope so. You've invested a lot of money and time in that place.) I assume you're covered, insurance-wise, but I know that's never easy, even if you are. All my best to both you and Jo...I hope the recovery isn't drawn out. And that you didn't lose much. People who don't live in the Midwest don't know...when we get rain, we get rain. I wish you everything, to get back to normal.

The shot is beautiful, and I know the frustration of waiting for an event and boom, a cloud gets in the way, or a dog barks, or it rains, whatever. I'd have never known this was a puddle shot---it really looks like the sky. And in your driveway??? It's really full, and beautiful. And it looks like a moon shot at night...Beautiful upload. (I saw the drone shot too, really eerie and spacious and also beautiful. I'll get to it later.) All the best to you and Jo, Rod, I hope you didn't lose too much.

So puddles are good for something other than splashing around in. Beautiful photo! Ray made us a box viewer and we would periodically take a peek at our dot of light. I was mowing and noticed the change in light quality and it got cooler. Neat experience all around.
