Description

On Saturday we walked with friends through Ravenna Park in Seattle. Ravenna Creek flows through a ravine with a maximum depth of 115 feet which didn't really seem too deep until we huffed and puffed our way back up and out of it :-).

This is really well done! I always know shots like this are there, but I guess I've spent too much time in this landscape to notice the things that would make a good picture. You found the specific beauty in our surroundings. Gorgeous work!

A beautiful place, certainly worth the huffing. I'm not so sure about the puffing though.

First, I got so undone by yours and tara's "huffing," i had to look it up. The damned word goes back to the renaissance! (The little s__t.) Who knew? People "huffed" in 1550? Well as you know I'm a font of information about as interesting as the length of a piece of lox, so I'll leave it; but ya can't say I don't read your descriptions. Tara got it on the nose about how one can find a great picture in a place of great familiarity. I don't know how much more there is of this scene, but, through the magic of photography, we see what appears to be a snippet of a vast wilderness. We just don't know what surrounds it---only you know. (The magic of photography---taking the infinite out of the finite.) It's a beautiful, intimate shot, the water is the true center, and the growth all around it is lush and protective. And you got beautiful detail. With light hitting the center, and with a smooth dark-blue rock in the center too. A beautiful 'keyhole' shot. I'd love to know what surrounds it. Really---and I'm being serious---the magic of photography allows us to shoot a tiny alcove in back of a McDonald's, and think it's paradise. Beautiful work, Bill.

Hmm..... You've never heard of "Rod's Law of Ravine Hiking" - which states that "A hike involving a vertical declination of N FEET will result in a return hike with a vertical inclination of N FEET times 2 (at least)." Therefore, you went down 115 feet, but back up 230 feet. See how that works? 😆

But you were rewarded with a very lovely shot, Bill!
