Another Afternoon Drive by KatesFriend

Another shameless use of a previous 3D setup. I had always wanted to re-do the motion blur effect for 'Afternoon Drive' in a more physically correct manner. The last time, I moved the trees instead of Vany's car and Vany herself. The reason being that it made for a simpler setup - the tree only needed to move as opposed to moving Vany, her car and all of the props with them. By the time I began this iteration I had learned how to parent one figure to a completely different figure much like a smart prop. This is done through drag-and-drop within the Hierarchy Editor under Poser's Windows menu. With Vany et al. parented to her car, the car could move and Vany with all of her props and camera would move with it. This way the trees would say fixed and I had hoped to create a more realistic effect. Well, not so fast. Although Vany did not move relative to her cameras, Poser's motion blur effect calculates her as moving - because she is in the absolute sense. This created some weird blurring of Vany's hand on the right side of the rendering. To fix this, I resorted to cheating. I rendered the scene again with motion blurring turned off. Using GIMP, I overlaid this static rendering onto the motion blur rendering. Then I cut out the background sections of the static rendering to expose the background portions of the motion blur rendering. And viola, the finished product. Actually, it was much easier to do than I had expected. And you can't get away with forced perspective either. When using the Moon, I normally place the prop just outside of the (75% transparent) Dystopia Skydome model. That's good enough when viewed from a fixed angle. But 3D Motion Blur calculates the scene from a series of perspectives. In early tests I found the Moon to streak across the sky like an overgrown meteor. To fix this I had to make the Moon much, much bigger and place it much further away. As it is in nature. This would reduce the Moon's relative motion in the scene to the point that any blurriness would be attributed to a bumpy car ride. In the end, Poser is not capable of managing a world where every element is to its proper scale or position so there will always be a little bit of cheating taking place. Cheers! And sorry, still no nudity.

Thanks for your explanation--I only tested motion blur a couple of times, but my scenes are generally static and find little need for MB. DoF is more important, and I either use a Gaussian blur (if I use a background image in PS) or the blur tool in one of my PS plugins if background is actually part of the scene in Poser. My computer simply can't handle too many fancy calculations in Poser.
Do like your little creation. Nice POV, excellent lighting. Like her expression--wonder what's she's thinking

She does look to be enjoying her drive and that it great how you did the blurring, she does look to be moving. Very well done. :)
