This definitely looks like it's in Japan, or maybe China or Korea. But the mountain in the background suggests Fuji (which was made famous in the prints of Hokusai and others). And it has a Buddhist or Shinto feeling, with that red arch in the background. We don't know what this person has encountered---you leave that to our imagination. But clearly something or someone has appeared. At first (when you first posted this), I thought it was the birds. But now I'm not sure: Maybe the birds see the intruder as well. Or maybe the birds belong to this traveler. (He's dressed as a samurai.)
A very evocative image, with questions and mysteries. And I like the faint rainbow and the autumn leaves in the background...
