Description

Hawker Hurricane Mk 1. This is P3717 and was delivered to 253 squadron at Kirton on Lindsey on 13th July 1940. The Squadron moved to RAF Kenley on the 29th Aug, 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain but PO3717's part was brief but fierce. The following morning, the Squadron scrambled to meet a very large incoming Luftwaffe raid. P3717 and its pilot Officer Samolinksi, were heavily involved in the fighting that followed. Samolinksi was credited with the destruction of a Messerschmitt 110 over Surrey, but his Hurricane was so badly damaged it had to be returned to Hawkers for repair. After a rebuildP3717 was one of the Hurricanes sent to Russia and it was from here it was recovered. Its service record while there is unknown. Its now based at The Shuttleworth Collection, and has just returned to flight. Rob

Cool catch!

Maybe not the "supermodel" that the Spitfire is considered to be, but the Hurri still has nice lines!

Gotta love the Hurricane - a start to finish WWII fighter that served in so many roles. What a history this plane has! Superb photo!

Cool, man. NO SMOKING ALLOWED! Ha! Nice shot! I didn't know they put out so much smoke.

I went into retirement Friday a week ago. Was invited for a bye-bye luncheon on Thursday. Got my laptop home yesterday and connected today. It's resting on an old computer at the kitchen window - very uncomfortable. My home computer is in the repair shop, and I hope it can be fixed, despite its age. It's very uncomfortable working - already aching left shoulder and back. I'll know my old computer's fate in about 2 weeks time. Will in the mean time mostly look and comment. Cheer! :-)

I like it for it's rag wing style in the first Marks. This view you show gives it solid lines.
