Description
A few months ago while taking on a load at the Lambert Space Docks in the Delta Quadrant, things stared to get a bit out of control with how the locals were storing the goods. Me and the Chief had our hands full trying to coordinate the loading efforts with the dockworkers when this guy walks up and yells at one of the lift operators, "hey asshole, you just put some heavy machine parts on top of fragiles! Pick it back up before it crushes the shit!"
I guess the operator thought he was part of my crew and after returning the man's words with a one finger salute, did as he was told. Walking over to thank the stranger, who I thought might be a dock foreman, for his timely intervention in preventing a substantial profit loss, he turned to me and spoke first, "I hear you're the captain of this tub, that right?" Taken by surprise for a moment, I then stammered, "yes, I am," then holding out my hand to shake, "name's Aria." Putting his hands on his hips, he replied, 'well Captain, seems you could use a little hand here."
Seeing what was going on between me and the stranger, thinking there might be trouble, the Chief walked over to back me up, "everything all right, boss?" Turning to the Chief, I said, "it's alright Chief, Mister, uhhh..." "Krebs, Randy Krebs," the man interjected. "It seems Mr. Krebs here saved us a lot of trouble and money," I told Tyrell. "Really?" ,Tyrell replied, "appreciate the help, anything we can do for you?" "There just might be," Krebs responded, "I need a job and it looks like you could use the help."
After telling me and the Chief about his job back on Mars, Krebs added, "got sick and tired of the corporate bullshit on Mars, decided to come out here to find some work and a little freedom. Been trying over a month with no luck, these pricks are so tight about outsiders, I can't even get a job as a shit house janitor. You give me room and board, along with an honest day's pay... I'll give you an honest day's work. So what do you say, could you use another hand?"
Looking over to the Chief, he stated, "he's got a point, boss. We can use the extra help, but your ship, your decision. Besides, if he doesn't live up to his word, we can always dump him off in some backwater," then added with a wink and grin, "or space him."
"Well Mr. Krebs, you got a deal. Oh, by the way, please don't call me Captain," I said to Krebs, again holding out my hand to seal the deal. As Krebs took my hand, he replied, "you got it, Boss... and by the way also, Mr. Krebs is my father, Krebs will do." Then turning and walking toward a group of dockworkers that had been standing around watching us, yelled at them, "all right you pack of sorry ass wharf rats, get your thumb out of your asses before my boot replaces it and get our cargo loaded. I said move it, assholes!"
As we watched Krebs walk away, Chief said from the side of his mouth, "the guy's crude, rude and a social misfit... I like him, already." "Me too, Chief," I replied with a chuckle, "me too."

Unless I miss my mark, I sense a brief shadow of 'Firefly' influence in the style. I like this guy, he's a bit of a rogue. This will prove to be an exciting story, I think. Well done.
