Description

A clearer shot of this side of the monument. I seem to recall that each side was a tad different ... Anxious to hit the trail again, I did not shoot all the sides, but this gives a good idea of the architecture involved. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Absolutely correct, T. Rex. This encompassed quite a bit of turf and tends to rival the scope / scale of a Civil War battlefield. It is largely pristine and undeveloped and made for a nice outing. We thought we were going to see Ticonderoga, but ... oh well. After viewing the monument here, we resumed the trek to Ticonderoga.

That's where Siri left us down. Outside the town, the road signs were "odd" and seemed to be pointing in two directions. We headed into the town and the signs stopped! No fortress in sight! Out comes the smart phone and I was amazed to see that we had one-half of the smallest bar showing the signal strength. That's when I gave up as time was a-wasting. I believe we were still heading for Albany for our rest stop, and I hate getting confused in strange cities.

I will give Albany a shout out here: we were most impressed with the downtown area -- very walkable and the buildings were remarkable... especially the collegiate building near the interstate. Just enough ethnic restaurants to be interesting and folks just walking around quite normally. Not what we expected since we have Baltimore to compare. Too many $#@ thugs there for us to want to mosey around no matter what the $%#@ attraction may be. Mrs. W kept asking me when we could move to Albany. However, this is her normal reaction to all new places we visit: New York, State College, Philadelphia, Boston, and all the places in between.

Enough blather...

Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Thanks for the reply! I see this is much taller than I expected, even based on your photo. As Faemike says, it would be interesting to go up in it and see the surroundings. But I suspect this is not open to the public. Interesting architecture. As for Fort Ticonderoga, it's a bit north of Lake George, if I recall correctly, and Albany a good bit south of there. I had wanted to see the fort when on vacation in the area, but no car, forget it! Keep up the good work! :-)
