Description

Obligatory link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Round_Top The map puts a lot of this into perspective. To our left is a heap of rocks: Devil's Den. I recall driving thru here in the early 1980's and the den was backed by a small group of trees which is now removed. I'm guessing this was done to "restore" it to its historic appearance. From left to right we see Houck's Ridge. If anyone sees Houck, tell him we found it. Continuing to the right, just out of sight, is the Wheatfield and then the Peach Orchard. All scenes of pretty hot action. Monuments all over the place, but we did not walk around down there. I will pass on a story I read about Devil's Den. As late as the 1930's they found a forgotten casualty of the battle in the Den. Most of the fallen have been found at these sites, but only about 10 years ago, at Antietam, they found several members of a Union Color company who were reinterred properly. One never knows when you will come face to face with the past or how.
