I started out using the 3D program called Imagine on an Amiga in 1990, switched to the PC around 1995, then switch to Lightwave3D around 2005 or so. I own a graphics company that specializes in architectural illustrations and animation. If you are looking for a job doing this kind of stuff, willing to relocate to Memphis, TN, and use Lightwave, drop me a note as I am probably hiring.

Very nice! It's as real as a photo - I assume the people are photos. Now you just need to fill all those empty shelves and cupboards with equipment.(lol)

the people are highly detailed 3D models..... just kidding. they are from a library of bitmaps with alpha channels that I purchased. I wanted to add beakers and test tubes and stuff, but my client (who paid me to do the pic) wanted it left empty. If I ever have the time, I will go back and add them for my own satisfaction.

a real testament to the value of hi quality accessories,in coveying photorealism to a 3D render....excellent modelling and lighting, and how the heck did you do the ceiling lights, that's an effect i'd love to know how to do

first I used a white and black bitmap for "brightness" that made the lights pure white.... and then I have multiple lights near the apparent light source location that have fall off using the 1/r2 drop off.
