Description

My Christmas Story When my son was about 5, we walked down the street to join a bunch of other kids to see Santa arrive in a big, red fire truck. This particular evening was one of those clear, bright and cold winter nights. The excitement was contagious; the kids were beyond excited. Finally, we heard the siren and there he was---Santa himself. Well, not really, and I had to explain that to Jordan since it was Christmas Eve and he already knew Santa was making his rounds. I managed to convince him that Santa had a LOT of helpers who stood in for him when he couldn’t be there. That seemed to satisfy him and the candy and little truck he got sure didn’t hurt!! As we started to walk back up the street, a shooting star zoomed across the sky. Jordan saw it and just KNEW it was Santa and his reindeer. He was beside himself with sheer joy and wonder, his eyes wide as could be with that pure happiness little kids still have. He kept watching; we even had to sit outside when we got home in the hopes we might see Santa one more time. Of course, we didn’t, but that didn’t matter. Jordan saw Santa that night, his 5 year old self couldn’t have been anymore excited and thrilled. It’s my most favorite Christmas story and I tell it every year. Now, at the ripe old age of 33, he still remembers that night and loves hearing about it. May your holiday be that magic and may you look up at the winter sky and see your own miracle!! December 24, 2013 It’s now Christmas Eve, 2015. This story still rings so true, so sweet and it’s become my way of sharing the joy of the season with you. May YOUR Christmas be as wonderful as his was that year and may we all keep some of that wonderful feeling!! Merry Christmas!!! Fast forward to 2017 Another Christmas Eve and another telling of the story. It never gets old and it always make me remember my now 38 year old son and this wonderful night. We could all use some of that pure magic!!! Merry Christmas!!! The foto is Donner Lake in Truckee.

I loved the story the first time, too, and all the other times you've posted it. I love that you've made it a tradition for us. And that Jordan has never tired of hearing it. The photo is luminous and shimmering, and your cutting it off at the sky zeroes us right into the intense water and trees. Whatever you did to it, you brought out the shimmer and coldness and purity. I hope your holidays were blessed, and I second Tara's wish for all of you.
