For Helle's Birthday!

Ok---as anyone who knows Helle knows, it's one of life's great delights to have Helle for a friend. I tried---I tried---to imitate Helle here, but it's just not possible. Her montages, manipulations, 'pop art' pieces and all her other wild and playful stuff is just not imitable. (Can't be done.) In fact, the next image is my effort to imitate her pop art: I did it with a mouse, but still, it's PITIFUL! I can't do what she does. See it (it's next). You'll see. I can't do what Helle does.
She also has all kinds of serious paintings and drawings in her gallery, and a ton of Helle photography. If you're new to her, go back---I mean several years---and you'll see shots of decay, closeups of insects that I swear are made of pure ceramic, gorgeous flower shots and countryside shots, tons of fine ink drawings, watercolors, acrylics, etc. I was amazed at how much she's done. And when she has no time? She picks up 5 scraps, 2 old photos, pieces of an old book, and puts them into a collage, and her friends stare and say: "How did you DO that???" And she's got books of these things: Magic. Ask any of her friends here, they'll tell you: They're magic.
Something else. (Forgive me, but a lot of people have the same experience:)
When I finish a piece, I hide under the bed, change my name, and move to the Yukon. I fear my fans will finally say: "Mark? Don't give up your day job." Well Helle's not like that; but I'm happy to say she, too, looks at some of her work and doesn't wanna post it. See, I have the rare privilege of seeing a bunch of her work before she posts it; and she frequently writes---in her typically hysterical letters---"try not to faint when you see this!" or, "if you get sick, don't say I didn't warn you!" But, god: She produces magic; and I tell her: "Helle: You gotta post this! Trust me!" And she does, and she invariably gets all kinds of joy and praise from her fans...
So what do I say: I adore this lady. People who get to know her just love her. And she's one of the most supportive people in the world too. She has a birthday the day AFTER Christmas---which means it's right after cooking for all kinds of people, and cleaning, and collapsing; and she doesn't get her due because of that...So Helle: In a year where you've had so many eye problems, ear problems, pains galore (our letters are filled with yelping about age), house problems, your beloved husband Per has had his share of problems, and so on, I'm adding to everyone else with this whacked-out half-crazy and (I hope) happy piece to say we love you, you give great joy, you've made my stay here a big carnival---and you've been a great friend!---and I hope you have all the health and joy in the world. Happy Birthday, Helle, with love and hugs from your admiring and grateful friend in the windy freezing snowy icy city known as Chicago, Mark
(My 'reject' follows...)

A great dedication to the wonderful woman. And, OMG, you've gone to great lengths to emulate Helle here, Mark. I'm familiar with much of her work, but from I can ascertain, this is 100 per cent you, my friend. You did a yeoman's job in carrying your message though. Through the bright colors. various shades and rectangles I perceive fotos of various parts of what I assume is your beloved Chicago. Yes, Helle is one of a kind, most resourceful in her meager object hunts for display, and a great artist and draftswoman. All this while in a continuing battle with all kinds of physical problems, along with her husband, but still finds the time, energy and determination to bring forth her wonderful and imaginative assortment of creations to us on RR. Happy Birthday, young lady, there in Denmark, and may you have many more, along with much improved health.

Dang - When you 'paint the town' you go all out, Mark! Chicago is on fire (again) here! And what a gorgeous and very fitting birthday wish for Helle! I haven't known her as long as you and Tara have, but I can sure agree with your words. She is indeed a treasure.
Happy Birthday, Helle!

I love the energy of this! Two whacked-out views of Chicago, and I'm expecting more, but then you say, "No no, sit here on this bench and relax a minute. Here's a flower," and amazing energy ensues again! It's JUST like Helle! LOL! It doesn't look a bit like her work (sorry ... I know you tried, and I've tried, but you're right ... it isn't possible) but it has her spirit and her joy and her willingness to keep creating, even in the face of everything that's going on. LOVE this!

My goodness you certainly live in an amazing city. No chance of winter time blues. A wonderful birthday present for Helle, I am sure she will be amazed at your creation. The colors positively vibrate off my little screen . Fabulous work. 😀

Looks like a hot time in the old town tonight. It does look like fire and you should know better than most that Chicago and fire are a bad mix. This is a stunning gift for Helle.

OK, Dearest Mark. This is the third time today, that I try to find words for this amazing and all through wonderful post... And all that for me? I am flabbergasted. I am stunned and overwhelmed and so very Honoured. Both by these Eye-candy Images with your beautiful Chicago, that I leaned to love so much through your photos and your amazing and so special Photo Manipulations, that nobody can do but you. You certainly dont need to make any Helle-ish things, when you have your own style, that everybody in here can recognize as your fabulous Mark piece, just like this. It is always a joy to read your stories and watch your Graphic art and photos. I will never get tired of any of it.
BUT I do not deserve all your way too beautiful words. Pretending, that I really do deserve them, they touch me deeper than I can express in words, so I would rather not try. Dearest Mark. I thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart, for all you did here for me. Love you back, brother, Love you back. snif!
