That flat gray light is so familiar to me. Rostov-on-Don and Seattle are at almost exactly the same latitude, which makes our towns look alike, light-wise. Winter light in Texas is a much different experience. Warm and clear, and nothing like the light "up north." This is a wonderful mood, and makes me feel like I'm at home.

Thank you, Tara! It's rather typical of Rostov and the whole South of Russia to have such days in the fall. Winters are usually sunny and mild. This winter, murly and mildest is being quite out of the ordinary. Perhaps Seattle may be more easily compared to the towns on the Black Sea coast.
