Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Yes...your color piece is quite nice, but the black and white brings out the intensity of this man. It's yet another proof that black and white is sometimes more 'truthful' than color---it gets at essences, at the nitty gritty. Beautiful portrait, Andrea, esp full size. You got a spirit here, mixed with a rough-hewn genuineness, and one of those smiles that comes from way inside a person. Gotta be seen full size---a terrific beaming portrait!
(More boring stuff from me, which you can ignore: In a previous life, I studied basic Greek, and Greek for 'man' is "andras". So I have no idea how Premto relates---but names come from so many places, they have a history all their own. I love that he knows his name's history, and i love that name! Also, your name is from the same root as "man": "andr"---but you have the feminine form. ((Andrew comes from that.)) These useless tidbits are free of charge, but we accept donations...)

A fantastic portrait. The words that come to mind are 'rough hewn', 'lived in face', 'been around'. Such character.

his face has character of which other men are jealous of - I concur with your assessment of the B&W vs Colour

Great portrait. My guy that does the heavy trimming and lifting is Mexican. Came over as a child illegally, but is now a citizen and does great work. His dad, my age, still helps him occasionally!
