An old friend, who was close to me years back, passed away last night. I found out just this morning. We grew apart only because of moving so many miles apart...it was physical distance, no more...
But he was close to me years back. And though I can't give his name (as I haven't spoken with his family, and don't know if they'd want me to do so), I can say we were musicians together, he played exquisite classical violin---his Bach was breathtaking!---and our passion together was classical avant garde: "Electronic" music...not the beat-driven EDM (electronic dance music, which I'm sure he loved, as he was so rhythmically driven); but the otherworldly sounds of the original Moogs and Buchlas---the old monster synthesizers which were only in academic depts, in those days, and which we poured over till all hours of the night, convinced we were making sounds no one had ever heard on earth before. (Not true, but it sure felt that way.) We composed with sounds the way painters painted with paint...
He's gone. He lived a long life; and hearing of him made me think of those magic days when we agonized over "voltage controlled filters, and amps"---hardly the language of music then! But those dials and buttons made such exquisite sounds, we wanted to shout to the whole world: "Listen to this!" As he said: "We painted with the 'cosmos' back then"...and we felt transported to other galaxies whenever we communed with those little beasts. I met Moog (his name was pronounced "Moag," btw), and he said to us: "Fly as high as you wish, there's no limit..."
To my friend, and to the spirit of exploration and light that he awakened inside me, I send love and great gratitude for everything he was. These are the people who make our lives blessed...

I took down my "Scene," out of respect. I saw your comments, thank you. I'll repost it another more appropriate time...
Be well all

Most impressive this is a real stunning piece of psychedelia just imagine the sound of Tangerine Dream playing to a massive audience with this as the backdrop 100 feet high a wonderful tribute to your dear friend Mark excellent IMAGERY!!!

Psychedelia? That's a new one on me. In any event, a marvelous run of bright colorful radiant variations in this memorial to your friend. It seems like you have more than your share of friends and relatives who are very ill, on the brink of death, or who have passed on.

A very beautiful tribute to your friend and I can see that you must have spent wonderful hours together as you experimented with all the music. There is such a vibrancy of color running through all these images which allows me to see the great heights you both achieved with your music. Amazing images that really sing. 😀

My deepest condolences for your loss, Mark! The passion of your words tell how much you and your friend learned and dreamed together. You transmite this in your image. There is a huge outburst of color and light in each pannel. In the whole, i see them as a journey. A journey that took you two and your musical discoveries, to unknown and magic worlds. The last pannel, is imposing with its tridimensional vision. The contrast between darkness and passionate colors and light, makes it a 'volcano' of deep feelings and love. A majestous portrait to honor your friend and your immense friendship.

Stunning and beautiful images here, Mark - a wonderful visual interpretation of the colors of sounds you and your friend created.
My deepest condolences on this loss, my friend. It's never easy to lose someone with whom you've shared such a wonderful part of your life. And the 'light' of your friendship, and what you created together will never dim.
You are in my thoughts and prayers, Mark,

It just doesn’t stop. Rod said it well it’s always hard to lose a friend, especially when you had such history together. I hope the memory of your friend might bring you some comfort.
It’s 2:00 a.m. here and I was beginning to fade but your artwork woke me right up.

Bob is right about Tangerine Dream. Maybe King Crimson. This piece would be perfect with their music. (Actually, I like your art a LOT more than I like those two bands, but still ... it's a good fit.) The way your colors change and meld and finally come together, with a bit of syncopation between the third and fourth panel, is very much like what King Crimson does. They take forever to resolve a chord. I get bored before they get there, but I have friends who swear it's the best stuff on earth. They get "that look" when they talk about that music. I like the resolution of your art so much more, because I can look at it as slowly or as quickly as I like, and take exactly the right amount of time (for me) to get to the resolution.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's tough to lose someone from your past like that, especially someone you were so artistically connected to. May his memory always be sweet ...

Mark I am so sorry you lost a dear old friend. I can easily imagine the thrill you two had, when finding new sounds and such together using the synthesizer. Now your friend is a beautiful memory, you are so lucky to have. You created such a lovely tribute to honour him with the most wonderful colors and lights, as a symbol of the happiness you had together.
On a much lower lever, I had the same fun with one of Pers Military friends. We could sit for hours and find lovely harmonies in the piano and we forgot time and place, untill Per and his friends wife called us back to earth. :) But this was only happening once and now we dont know where he is in the world. Still a good memory to keep. :)
