Description

Recouvrance is the retort of an escort vessel-schooner of the beginning of the XIXe century intended to pass on the urgent notices towards coasts of Africa and in the Antilles. The construction of Recouvrance, which began in 1990, was presented to the public on the occasion of Brest 1992. Recouvrance is the boat ambassador and the property of the city of Brest. His name results from the district of Brest of the same name. In saint-Catherine's parish (the former name of Recouvrance), we honored a statue of virgin, Notre-Dame of Recouvrance which gave its name to the district. To recover the earth it is to find the earth: we asked Notre-Dame of Recouvrance for making a good return for its earth of departure. Recouvrance is a topsail schooner, a retort of the schooners of type "Iris", a model drawn by the naval architect Hubert in 1817. These military buildings were intended for the transport of urgent folds, for the surveillance of the trade traffic and for the repression of the draft of the slaves on coasts of Africa and for the Antilles. They carried six caronades of 24 and them. The length overall of Recouvrance is 42 meters, his(her, its) length of 25 meter hull(shell), his 6,40 meter master(teacher) - bau, his 3,20 meter draft, his(her, its) sail area ( nine veils(sails)) of 430 m2. His(Her,Its) figurehead represents the head of a woman. His(Her) shipowner is Brest Aim and his port of registry is the commercial harbour of Brest, where the construction of the boat took place, in the construction site(work) of Guip1 on the quay(platform) of Commander(Major) Malbert.

One could say a kind of coast guard ship or police ship. And schooners were fast ships, as can be seen from the bow wave. Nice view. Were you in a helicopter when you took this photo?

This photo was taken at the forefront(tip) of Spanish, "La pointe des Espagnols" bottleneck which allows to reach the port(bearing) of Brest. We were on the cliff lining the bottleneck
