Description

Wahweap Bay Near Page, Arizona April, 2013 In 2013 we toured the National Parks of Utah. After a couple of weeks immersing ourselves in geology and history, we drove across into Arizona, tired, our brains totally full. It was nice to come down out of the high country and get to a more reasonable (for me) elevation. In Utah we were mostly between 6500 and 9000 feet, and Page, Arizona, sits closer to 4,000 feet above sea level. Being at high elevations really wipes me out, and coming down into Arizona was like letting out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding. Being at this campground was one of the most relaxing places we ever stayed in all our travels. Our first afternoon at Wahweap Bay (part of much larger Lake Powell), an impressive storm came through. In the afternoon light everything glowed. I took a million pictures while it passed through, and I'll show you a few of them. When I took this picture I was standing in Arizona, but the water and the land formations you see are in Utah.

I really wish I could give it 10,000 stars for the total beauty. This is one that should be enlarged and framed; Hung in a great gallery. this is beyond words to describe.

They don't call it "God's Country" for nothing, do they? Excellent photograph.

A stunning image of a magnificent landscape. If you haven't done so, one day you must visit Antelope Canyon just south of Page.

Beautiful convergence of landscape & sky, sunlight & shadow. In terms of geology (which I know you & Bill are fascinated by), there is no more spectacular state than Utah. We've been talking about another trip back there, possibly in the fall, but no definite plans yet...

great photo the swerve in the clouds keeps the eyes pulled to the center of the frame and the shadows work well. I would have thought a wider lens than a 50mm on a aps-c (I shoot with one myself ) you should frame this!!

I was only going to do one image per person today, but I've missed some masterpieces of yours, so I had to do at least one other of yours. (I'll catch up later down the line, though I"ve seen everything, and sat with them all.)

Ansel Adams would be proud of this: You've both sculpted and 'silkened' space, turning the light on the mounds and clouds into silken undulating surfaces, giving the 'ephemeral' the feeling of sheets of sheer fabrics. This is the kind of thing more easily done in the darkroom than in digitalia; but somehow you did it, making this look like a sumptuous film shot. And...it's a dramatic, almost stormy sky; and, for a day shot, it has the feeling of a very dark, private chamber, even though it's quite expansive...A beautiful photo-painting of light and shadow, and it feels far more sheer and sumptuous than the actual rock ever could. Exquisite work Tara. Bravo.
